… and Scarecrow, I’ll miss you most of all…

Task 1: Get rid of worldly possessions

In mid-Jan 2012, Liesl and I had to get rid of all our STUFF. This was extremely difficult to do as our collective STUFF represented the life we had built together in Joburg.

STUFF
Everything was reduced to plastic bags of “keeps”, “get rid of” and “sell” – we ended up with so many filled black bags that it looked like Dexter Morgan had come to visit…

Dexter's room
Luckily, with the help of friends and random strangers, we got rid of most of it. The remainder was put in storage for safekeeping (READ: in case everything fucks out after 3 months and we have to come back).

By the end of the month we were ready to move out of our beautiful (empty) home – with the help of some (unfortunate) friends…

Unfortunate friends

Task 2: Say goodbye to pets (or little people with fur)

Leaving pets behind is heart-wrenching. Period.

Our little family consists of:

The Girls: Frankie and Molly

Frankie and Molly
The Lucy and Ethel of the canine world. Both equally funny, smart and pretty (even though Molly is slightly smarter, and Frankie is slightly prettier).

Very sad to see them go, but they will be well looked after by their other mommy. We will miss them more than words can say…

Lil’ Poopie: Lucy

Lucy is our little rabbit. I call her Poopie because she likes to lick you… and she poops a lot. She’s the cutest little thing and I would never have imagined it possible to get so attached to a rabbit (I thought they were more like hamsters, but they’re not. They’re very affectionate and clever). I’m sure she will be happy at her new home with Starbuck. I’ll miss her floppies and binkies and little love licks… She is a really special little creature.

NOTE: We actually discovered a few months ago that Lucy is in fact a boy… Liesl says that I should now refer to her as “Mr Lucy”… but I’m still in denial, she’ll always be my little girl…

Say what?

The Princess: Miss Olive

Miss Olive in her Liza Minnelli bed
Olive came with us to Hermanus. She survived the 16- hour drive unscathed – sort of.

Our car was packed to the roof!

She is now at her new home with granny and grandpa, where she will be well taken care of – and can hunt as many bugs as her little heart desires.

Liesl calls her “The Mighty Hunter” because it boosts her ego and gives her confidence. Not sure how well that’s working though… Olive has taken to sleeping in the cupboard:

Isn't she brave

Although the last few days she has ventured out into the room:

Cape Town agrees with her

I heart Olive.
NOTE: apparently it’s really difficult NOT to put up cutesy pictures of cats… (refer to comment in 1st blog post)

Task 3: Say good bye to family / friends

I’ve said goodbye to so many great friends over the years, and it never gets easier. I’ve had the good fortune of making amazing friends. True friends. Relationships that will last forever, regardless of where in the world I am or they are. I will miss them dearly, but hopefully not for long.
