Liesl and I decided to go on a little outing on our day off. Seen as this is the only day we have off together, we like to make the most of it.
We decided to go to "World Famous" Han Street in Wuchang. This is a pedestrian shopping street which runs along the Chu river. It's quite a new development and has some international shops - hence the attraction for us.
Luckily, the weather also played the game. It was overcast and a bit drizzly, which meant that it was a bit cooler. This was perfect weather to walk around - in the open during the day. (Usually it's so hot, the thought of walking around town is unbearable and your underwear starts to melt just thinking about it).

Olympic billboard |
OMG!!! They have international (Western) stores which we LOVE. I almost started crying when I saw the Marks and Spencer sign. We bolted to the store... only to have our joy short-lived as we discovered that it is mainly a clothing store. Their "Food Hall" is about as big as a flea's brain. It only stocks biscuits and sweets. Which is better than nothing I suppose... but we were hoping for bread, cheese and milk. Ho hum.

H&M and C&A. Awesome |

We found a bookstore!! It has 4 levels of books - all of them Chinese, except for a tiny little alcove which sells English books. HEAVEN!

The English Section
Yay, we bought some books!!! |
After our day of shopping we decided to go for a little bit of lunch at this restaurant.
Yay, they have English descriptions on the menu!! |
Quite pretty inside, and the food was good. |
Who remembers these???? They have a whole store dedicated to them. They are SOO expensive. The cheapest starts at 250RMB!
I took some pics of the "fantastic" food and dishes on offer. I don't know what any of these are...so use your imagination.

The Chinese version of an English Breakfast? |
Some kind of marrow with rice? or is it fruit? |
Can you spot the fish head? |
No idea what this is.... |
Burnt vomit in a bowl? Yum! |
Traditional Wuhan food. Duck heads, duck tongue and lotus roots |
This delightful looking drink is on sale at MacDonald's - those ball things are squishy and taste like duck penis |
More traditional food - duck neck |
Duck tongue - yummy! |
Then of course there are the few obligatory shop names or signs which make no sense translated in English... or just make no sense.
I'm pretty sure that if you check with Wall Street, the term is BULL and Bear.... |
Hot Wind?? One can only hope that they are referring to the weather in Wuhan... and not a bodily function... |
Who Ahh U??? My mistake. All this time I've been writing "Who r u" |
Coffee and CATE? What's Cate? Is this similar to a cafe or cake? |
Yum! Supersteak Fruit Wood! What a tantalising thought |
The exit from Han Street |
We had a really nice time in Han Street. Was nice to get out for a bit, and do some proper shopping!
Not sure what our next outing will be... I'll keep you posted.
